Hello everybody and welcome to my site. My name is Lee Rutene and I am 36 years old but wish I was 21 again! I live with Mel and we have been together for 18 months. I also have Cerebral Palsy which means my brain doesn't cooperate with my legs but there are all kinds of Cerebral Palsy. I am sharing my story because I want, and believe, I can make a difference for people with disabilities so here I go. Born 1975 in Wellington, at the age of four I lived with my grandparents until my Mum and Dad could find a suitable house to accommodate my needs. I have one younger brother and one older brother and have been involved with various disability groups such as Para-Olympics, where I excelled in swimming and basketball. However these days I am unable to compete, least of all partake in sports due to an injury. Instead I'm getting political to make a difference in the disability sector as there was no support for my family growing up. Attending meetings for various different disability groups, i.e. People First, the purpose of my website is to support others in a similar situation, both locally and nationally. Assisting physically challenged people, City Ability is a gateway to the services provided in Wellington, New Zealand to those affected like Mel and I. However I also need your assistance so any feedback will be gratefully appreciated. |
